Rabin Poudel

Welcome !! I am Rabin Poudel

I am currently a PhD student in the School of Mathematics at Cardiff University, co-supervision of Dr Angela Mihai and Dr Yasemin Sengul Tezel. My Research focuses on mathematical modelling and numerical simulation of the mechanical behaviour of liquid crystal elastomers.

I obtained my MSc degree in Civil Engineering from RWTH University with a specialization in advanced computation methods. For the master’s thesis, I developed finite element formulation for coupled thermoelastic behaviour to simulate strain-induced crystallization in elastomers. Later, I worked as a Research Assistant in the Department of Continuum Mechanics at RWTH University itself in Soft Matter Group before moving to Cardiff University for my PhD.

I was born and raised in Nepal where I did my Bachelor’ in Civil Engineering at Pulchowk Campus, Tribhuvan University. I also worked as a civil engineer under the Nepal Reconstruction Project to reconstruct the physical damage caused by the massive Nepal earthquake 2015.

My Research interest lies in solid mechanics, material modelling and finite element simulation. Outside of academics, I enjoy cooking, Eastern philosophy, poems and ghazal.
